Nandi is a sacred bull that sits in a dedicated columned pavilion known as Nandi mandapam, and is positioned so that he gazes in adoration of the presiding deity in the sanctum. Nandi is regarded as a symbol of eternal waiting, purity, wisdom, and sacred power, and his worship can fulfill the true wishes of devotees.

Nandi worship assumes prominence on the occasion of Pradosham, which is during the twilight hours of Tryodisi and special prayers are offered on the star day Thiruvadirai, which falls on the Tamil month Margazhi (mid-December-mid- January).
